KPrint: Printing From Your iPhone/iPad

Summary
In order to print to KPrint from your iPhone/iPad you first need to install the PrinterOn app, available in iTunes/App Store, and then configure the app using the instructions explained in this article.

Download the PrinterOn App  
In the "App Store", search for "PrinterOn", then download and install the PrinterOn App. Alternatively, if you are viewing this page from your iPhone or iPad, click on the relevant link below.

Configure the App

Configure the PrinterOn App for KPrint

Step 1 - Save your NetID
  • Open the PrinterOn app.
  • Tap “Settings” at the bottom right.
  • Enter your NetID credentials:
    (see image on right)
    • Tap “Username/Address” and enter your NetID.
    • DO NOT ENTER YOUR PASSWORD
    • Click the Done button.
  • Ensure that “Use in requests” is set to “ON”.

 

 

 

 

Step 2 - Find and Save the KPrint Printers
  • In the PrinterOn app, tap “Search” at the bottom left.

  • Enter “kellogg” in the search field and tap “Search” to see a list of the Kelloggg KPrint printers:
    • Northwestern Kellogg (KPrint-BW)
    • Northwestern Kellogg (KPrint-Color)
  • Save the printers you wish to store:
    • Tap on a printer entry and then tap on the “Open in” icon:
    • Tap on “Save”
  • Your saved printers are stored under “My Printers”

 

 

 

 

Note: Although the KPrint printers are listed with the 2001 Sheridan Road address in Evanston, they can be used to print anywhere KPrint is installed, such as McManus and Wieboldt.  

Print from your iPhone/iPad
Below are instructions for printing via the most common scenarios.

Note: The PrinterOn app for the iPhone/iPad only allows printing of files from apps such as Mail, Safari, or Dropbox (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF, etc.) by using the "Open in" button. You cannot print e-mails or webpages themselves.

Warning: Currently some PDF files generate the error message PAS00102. If you receive this error, the file will not show in your printing queue, and you will have to print it thorugh other means.

Printing an Email Attachment

  1. Launch Mail
  2. Navigate to the email that contains the attachment you wish to print.
  3. Tap and hold on the attachment icon, and you will get a pop-up message.
  4. Tap on "Open in "Printer On"".


    Note: If your mail client shows you a preview of the file instead of an attachment icon, repeat the steps by tapping and holding on the preview image of the file or click this button:

  5. Tap "Saved PrintSpots".

  6. Select either the KPrint-BW or KPrint-Color printers, and then tap the "Select" button on the bottom of the screen.
  7. Tap "Print" in the top right hand corner. A Print Settings screen will appear.  Enter your NetID and tap the green arrow.                                
  8. The Authorization window will open. Tap the "Authenticate" button.

  9. Authenticate with your NetID and password and press the "Log In" button.
  10. You will get a confirmation that "Your request has been processed".
  11. You will see your print job when you log into a KPrint MFP.

Printing a File from Safari
Note: You cannot print webpages, and the regular Print option will not work with KPrint. You must choose the "Open in" button and select PrinterOn.

  1. Launch Safari
  2. Navigate to the pdf document you wish to print by typing in a direct URL or by clicking on a link to it.
  3. Once the document has loaded, tap on the "Open in" button in the top left hand of the page. Select PrinterOn.
    Note: if you do not see this button, tap once on the screen and the button will appear.
  4. In the PrinterOn App, tap on "Saved PrintSpots " at the bottom and select the printer you wish to print to.
  5. Tap "Print" in the top right hand corner.
  6. Tap "Authenticate".
  7. Authenticate with your NetID and password.

Printing from DropBox
Note: See above for PrinterOn screenshots.

  1. Launch Dropbox
  2. Navigate to the document you wish to print.
  3. Once the document has loaded, click this button:
  4. Select PrinterOn.
  5. In the PrinterOn App, tap on "Saved PrintSpots" at the bottom and select the printer you wish to print to.
  6. Tap "Print" in the top right hand corner.
  7. Tap "Authenticate".
  8. Authenticate with your NetID and password.

NOTE: The staple and hole-punch finishing options are not available. Double-sided printing is turned on by default.
