Overview

Kiosk Computers

To help you stay connected and be productive outside the classroom, Kellogg Information Systems maintains kiosk computers in all Kellogg buildings, geared toward accessing the Internet, email, and Microsoft Office applications.

Lab Computers

In addition to the quick-use kiosk computers, Kellogg Information Systems maintains three computer laboratories.  The Jacobs, McManus and Wieboldt Hall labs contain computers with standard software (see list below) and specialized software for research and statistical analysis, as well as multimedia and web development.

The Jacobs and Wieboldt labs are also equipped with projectors to facilitate training sessions.  Faculty and Staff should contact kis-help@kellogg.northwestern.edu to reserve a computer lab for a training session.

Kiosk computers are in the following locations:

  • Jacobs Center Garden Level - SE
  • Mcmanus Computer Lab, First Floor SE
  • Wieboldt Hall, First Floor Lounge
  • Wieboldt Hall, Second Floor Resource Room
  • Wieboldt Hall, room 452
  • Allen Center, Resource Area, Second Floor
  • Allen Center, room 221 foyer

Lab computers are in the following locations:

  • Jacobs Center room 2222
      • 5 Standard Software comuters
      • 9 Special Software computers
      • 4 Bloomberg terminals
      • 1 Datastream computer
      • 1 Multimedia computer with flatbed scanner
  • Mcmanus Computer Lab, First Floor SE
      • 9 Standard Software computers
  • Wieboldt Hall, 2 Locations:
    • Schaffner Library, Second Floor
      • 9 Standard Software computers
        6 Special Software computers (of which 3 are BARRA enabled)
      • 2 Bloomberg terminals
    • Room 452, Fourth Floor SW
      • 1 Capital IQ computer
      • 2 Standard Software computers

Logging On

To log on to a kiosk or lab computer, use your NetID and Password. The first login will take 1-2 minutes for each new computer, as an account is created. Each subsequent login should only take 15-20 seconds.

Note: Allen Center Group Room computers also use a shared account and password for logging on. The account and password will be listed on or near the computer. This method is recommended only for Executive Education participants or guests.

Installed Software

All kiosks and lab computers run Microsoft Windows 7.

Standard Software (Kiosks and Labs)

The following software is installed on all kiosk computers:

  • Microsoft Office Enterprise 2010 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, Publisher)
  • Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox 3.6.x web browsers
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection
  • Multimedia software (VLC Media Player and QuickTime Player)

Specialized Lab Software

Both the Jacobs Center and Wieboldt Labs contain several computers with specialized software. Applications are geared toward research and statistical analysis, as well as multimedia and web development.2
